Abstract
In 1983 the numismatic cabinet in Ljubljana acquired a Celtic gold coin found shortly before in the river Savinja at Celje. PIXE analysis gave a gold content of about 87 per cent; at 0.99 g the piece is an eighth stater. Its reverse assigns it to the second group of Noric small silver coins of the Karlstein type, with which it is probably contemporary. In 1984 a gold blank of 0.965 g came to light at the same spot, which the author reads as evidence of local striking. Noric gold coinage, long doubted, is thereby attested.
