Abstract

Written in Italian, the paper deals with the small silver denominations of Greek Sicily in the fifth century BC and the move to bronze money. Its occasion is the appearance of numerous small silver coins, some unpublished, on the art market of the preceding decades. The author sorts out the ancient terminology, from kerma and kollybos to onkia and hexas, and examines the practical difficulties of handling pieces so small.
