Abstract
In the Celto-Ligurian oppidum of La Cloche near Marseille, destroyed in 49 BC when Caesar's troops besieged Massalia, a purse of 53 coins was found hidden in a collapsed house. Besides issues of Massalia, a KALETEDOU quinarius and local imitations, it contained a Vindelician gold stater, one of the so-called rainbow cups from the upper Danube region. The paper describes the piece, stresses its unusually high weight of 7.92 g despite little wear, and places the long journey of this gold coin within the monetary circulation of the late La Tène period.
