Abstract

Two lead weights from Asia Minor are published here for the first time. The first piece dates into the first year of the reign of Valerianus I. Although the city of provenance is unknown, the weight definitely belongs to the province of Asia, since the name of the gouvernor C. Julius Octavius Volusenna Rogatianus is inscribed, adding to our prosopographic knowledge of this magistrate. The second weight comes from Flaviopolis (Flavias) in Cilicia, showing name and bust of the emperor Hadrianus on one side, Nike on the other side, further an inscription, which shows that the city then had the privilege of being permitted to conduct an Olympic agon. This piece, one Roman pound of weight, too shows the dose connection between trade, market-fair and the games
