Abstract

In an ancient correspondence of September 1751 between Jobst Hermann Nünning, ecclesiastic from Vrede, and Count Ferdinand Dietrich von Merveldt there is interesting information on the important hoard of Celtic rainbowcup-staters from Gaggers, Comm. Odelzhausen, County Dachau (Bavaria). The drawing of a rainbowcup of the "vindelician" type with bird's head in a wreath of leaves on the obverse and 6 balls within a torques on the reverse at least adds a little to our knowledge on this hoard, which in its most parts was dispersed. Only a few pieces can be traced in Staatliche Münzsammlung, München
