Abstract
On its whole abbriviations on phoenician pre-alexandrine coins so far have not been studied. Result of this is more than just a list of abbreviations. Certain rules can be seen, e.g. for Byblos abbreviations point to the king's authority. Tyros, Arwad (Arados) and Sidon combine date and narre of the king, by giving the year of reign in the abbreviation. Also the way of abbreviations is due to certain rules
