Abstract

This study of the Aes coinage from Laodicea in Syria, A.D. 194/217, is based on a catalogue of coin types, which is not intended to be a complete corpus. From the mere numismatic point of view the material is arranged in the sequence of issues, furthermore weights and countermarks are studied. The coinage is used, in the context of the other sources, as evidence for history. Legal status, titles, games and cults of the city are thouroghly studied
