Abstract

In the last years some strange varieties to the Celtic coin type Forrer 352, the "type Nauheim", have appeared, bearing a struck kind of torus on the one, and a struck deepening, corresponding to it, on the other side. Coins like these have been found in Mardorf dose to Marburg/Lahn, Heuchelheim/Dutenhofen, Dünsberg in the vicinity of Giessen and Heidetränke dose to Oberursel/Frankfurt (Main). It is typical for all these coins that they are struck more or less off-centre. Accordingly some part of the original coin design is still visible, at least some of its typical elements, like halfbows or ringlets. There is no case known, where these still visible coin designs, "head of Apollo" and "birdman" are damaged by these phenomena. The torus and the corresponding deepening never will go further, than into their dose vicinity
