Abstract

A bronze seal in the British Museum, found at Smyrna and so far overlooked in connection with the coinage, belonged to the association of mystae of Dionysos Breiseus attested at Smyrna by inscriptions. The empress's hairstyle points to the middle of the third century; the three busts have been read either as Philip I with Otacilia Severa and Philip II, or as Gallienus with Salonina and Valerian II. The die is plainly by the same hand as the coins of the travelling workshop that Konrad Kraft called "Smyrna".
