Abstract

A third supplement to the corpus of Uranius Antoninus. Because the written record for the Roman east in the middle of the third century is unusually thin, the coins carry exceptional weight as sources: they attest how the high priest of Emesa took power in 253 in the forms of an imperial proclamation and organised resistance to Shapur I. The paper presents the specimens that have come to light since and fits them into the established picture.
