Abstract

In August 1981 a hoard of Franconian half shillings became known, found about two years earlier. Seven pieces stayed in private hands, 38 were acquired by the Munich coin cabinet from a Nuremberg dealer; all 45 were uncleaned and shared the same patina. The original extent is unknown and was probably larger. The area between Günzburg and Passau is named as the find spot, which fits the composition: Franconian shillings circulated almost only regionally.
