Abstract

In 1969 at Akaram in the Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh, gardening work brought to light a tall slender clay vessel holding more than 180 copper coins together with fragments; the vessel itself was not kept. All the surviving pieces can be classified by type, but heavy corrosion leaves only nine inscriptions wholly or partly legible. The reverses show the plain Ujjain symbol, the obverses the elephant with neck ornament characteristic of this coinage.
