Abstract

A continuation of a series whose introductory remarks appeared in the volume of 1972. Islamic coins in private hands are presented, recorded with metal, diameter and weight and set against the standard catalogues of London and Paris, with divergences noted in detail. The first section concerns the Abbasids, with dinars and dirhams of the mints of Marw, Isbahan, ar-Rafiqa, al-Ahwaz, Halab, Harran and Filistin from the years 225 to 304 AH. During a visit to the American Numismatic Society the author was able to check with Michael L. Bates which pieces had meanwhile become known elsewhere.
