Abstract
The Munich State Coin Collection acquired an Arabic silver coin previously known only as a unicum in the Berlin cabinet and published by Heinrich Nützel without regard to the historical events behind it. In type it appears purely Umayyad; the striking formula names Tanbuk and the year 133, and the additional outer legend states that judgment belongs to God alone. That formula is Kharijite and occurs also on coins of Kufa of the years 128 and 129. The paper therefore places the piece for the first time in its historical setting, the upheaval between Umayyads and Abbasids, and follows the proposed readings of the mint name.
