Abstract
Among the Norican silver in the Vienna Bundessammlung lies a small silver coin of 0.91 g without a find spot, unmentioned until now in the literature on Celtic coinage in Noricum. Both sides show a trotting horse with a strongly curved spine, a beaded mane, powerful quarters and fully modelled hooves; they differ only in the fetter, two-part on the obverse and single on the reverse. Comparison with the tetradrachms of the eastern and western Norican groups, by way of the ball joint of the forequarters, the shape of the head, the division of the tail and the rib arches, points to the Varaždin type, of which the piece may be a fraction.
