Abstract
In the autumn of 1968 Roman coins were submitted for identification which schoolchildren had picked up in the fields of Moigrad and Jac over the ruins of the Roman town of Porolissum. After cleaning it emerged that plated denarii were among them; on one, the silver layer of the obverse has corroded away in places so that the blackish core lies exposed. Obverse and reverse correspond exactly to the denarius in the Budapest cabinet described by Strack, and the reverse agrees with that of a denarius of Hadrian in Leningrad which likewise reads PAT instead of PAX in the exergue. Since the reverse legend refers unambiguously to Hadrian, neither piece belongs among the hybrid issues of Trajan's time but among those of Hadrian's.
