Abstract
Out of the mass of staters of Taras whose weight matches the original standard of just under eight grams, one group stands out by carrying a complete magistrate's name on the obverse. Arthur Evans dated it between 302 and 281 BC: the lower limit because he placed the reduction of weight in 281, when Pyrrhus gained decisive influence at Taras, the upper because he connected the innovation with the appearance of Kleonymos in 303/02 and because the seventeen names fitted well into that span. Lodovico Brunetti has rearranged the unreduced issues and assigned an emission to each year from 302/01, on the assumption that a new emission began with the entry into office of each new eponymous ephor.
