Abstract

An unsigned portrait out of red wax on slate recently acquired by Staatliche Münzsammlung undoubtedly is a work by Schega. It represents Caspar Gregor von Lachenmeyer, electoral mint commissar and counsellor concerning mining. Although we know that Schega had designed a medal with his features — so far not verified — we only knew a plaster cast of this piece, also in Staatliche Münzsammlung. A medal by Schega on Antonius von Ehrnburg has a very dose connection to two rather damaged plaster medaillons in Bayerisches Nationalmuseum Munich, one representing Albrecht VII, the other one Prince Johann Theodor, bishop of Regensburg, Freising and Liege. There further is a comparison with two portrait reliefs signed by Johann Anton Schega, the brother of Franz Anton
