Abstract

Literary and epigraphic sources make it possible to give a rather complete report an the history of the Perrhaibic Tripolis. These are represented by the cities of Azorus, Doliche and Pythium, from the end of the 5th century B.C. to Roman times. For the 4th century B.C. the existence of the Tripolis as a political entiety so far is not proven. By studying the numismatic, iconographic and linguistic evidence the author is able to fill this gap and to identify Pythium as the seat of the mint
