Abstract
In the Southern vicus of the Roman camp of Dambach a conglomerated lump of denarii was found by the aid of a metal detector. Conservation rendered the amount of 25 denarii, mostly from the Severan dynasty, the youngest issue from A. D. 211. In comparison to similar hoards from western Raetia, it becomes more and more likely that there is a horizon of hoards before A. D. 213, the very year, when Caracalla started his campaign against the Alamanni. Should this further be confirmed, this campaign could not be seen any more as a preventive measure of Roman strategy, but as a reaction against first raids of the Alamanni into western Raetia
