Abstract
Leo Trümpelmann read the figures of the Sasanian relief at Taq-i Bustan as the fallen emperor Julian and Shapur II, closing a conspicuous gap in Sasanian imagery: unlike the victories of Shapur I, the death of Julian seemed to have been passed over in art. The paper pursues the thought that further representations may survive unrecognised, and puts forward the Cunningham chalcedony in the British Museum as a strong candidate.
