Abstract

Plaster casts of a small bronze coin, bought together with some 260 mostly Asia Minor pieces from a dealer in the United States, were sent to the author for identification; the find spot is unknown. The clearly legible reverse legend ΠΗΔΑΣΕΩΝ yields Pedasa, a city from which no coins had been known; the British Museum and the American Numismatic Society have confirmed both reading and attribution. The name is Lelegian or Carian, and since the ancient testimonies cannot all be tied to one place, the paper discusses several identically or similarly named sites, among them Pedasos in the Troad and Pedasa near Halikarnassos.
