Abstract
In Cornelius Vermeule's list of ancient coin dies only a small number of Greek pieces appear, of which he held just two to be certainly genuine and official: an obverse die from Kyzikos and a reverse die for tetradrachms of Philip II. The author was able to acquire in the Hamburg trade a hitherto unknown die which likewise seems to come from Kyzikos; nothing could be learned of its origin or find spot. It is a truncated cone about 10.5 mm high whose base of 30.2 mm carries the incuse coin image; a lateral casting sprue and the toothed edge betray the casting. The well preserved upper face corresponds to tetradrachms such as were struck at Kyzikos around the turn of the fourth century BC, with the portrait of the Soteira.
