Abstract
From the beginning of the new recording of Roman coin finds in Germany, the evaluation of the sifted material was set as a further aim. The results are varied, so that no single method can be applied and wide ranging evaluations are better held back until more regions have been covered; even so, the variety of the questions compels small samples, which at the same time test the method. This paper is such a sample. Its subject is the fact that the younger a hoard of fourth century bronze coins is, the narrower the circle of mints represented in it. Scholarship has noticed this regionalisation but has mostly accepted it or explained it by the mechanics of trade; in the author's view the sufficient explanation lies in the legislation of the period.
