Abstract
The ornament of the oriental department of the Munich State Coin Collection is a gold piece of 55.384 g and 52 mm, a unicum absent from the works of Nelson Wright and White King. It is recorded with date, mint and ruler in Nützel's handwritten catalogue of 1898 but otherwise remained unknown; how it reached Munich can no longer be established, since the papers were destroyed in the war. Imageless after Islamic custom, it carries on the obverse, within a double frame, the invocation of Allah, around it a circle with luck knots in its segments, and in the outer field the names of the first four caliphs. Between them stand the year 868 after the flight of the prophet and the mint of Shadiabad. The reverse gives in eight lines the titles of Mahmud Shah Khalji.
