Abstract
Among the hardest problems of Celtic numismatics is the dating of individual coins or groups of coins. Because precisely described finds are almost entirely lacking, since neither Podmokly nor Gaggers nor Irsching was described in detail, the attempts rest mostly on historical events linked with the great tribes, on the date of the models imitated, and on metrology: the heavier, the older. Combining all three yields an absolute date which is nonetheless far from exact enough to place the coins from an excavation with certainty, as the finds from Manching show. The author therefore points to a circumstance little noticed so far, the metrological relations among the Celtic coins of Bohemia, Vindelicia and Gaul, and begins with the latest period.
