Abstract

An inscription found in 1993 near the nymphaeum of Laodikeia on the Lykos, from the reign of Antoninus Pius, names a Publius Aelius whose cognomen is lost through damage to the stone. The surviving honorific titles mark him as a member of the supra-regional association of Dionysiac artists, under whose chairmanship a petition of that association was put to the vote. The paper draws on the city coinage to identify the man more closely.
