Abstract

There is a short introduction on the rule in Schmalkalden and on the striking of halfgroschen. The halfgroschen struck by Hermann II was the first groschen currency struck in Hesse. The pfennigs are of three different types, the round pfennig struck on both sides, the „hohlfpfennig" (bracteates) with one side only, and the pfennig with „vierschlag" (rectangular shape in center)
