Abstract

Topic of this study is the revival of German medallic art in the beginning of this century, not at least caused by the impact from Vienna and Paris, by the leading role of Georg Habich, then at the Munich Coin Cabinet and the involvement of Georg Hitl, owner of the Poellath firm. Well-known artists of this time, e.g. right at the beginning Rudolf Bosselt, Fritz Christ, Maximilian Dasio, Hermann Hahn, Heinrich Kautsch, Georg Roemer, Heinrich Wadere, Georg Wrba — just to give some of the names — became responsible for the excellent standing of this enterprise. To the early thirties the issue of medals was flourishing. Then political denunciation in the Nazi era and centralization of all orders of medals in Berlin led to a decline. Poellath's production had to seek for new fields in the market. Today the firm is still existing producing different items struck in metal. — As an appendix a price list of medals for sale from 1925 is published
