Abstract
The paper evaluates a lost hoard of Macedonian and Epirote coins to which Willy Schwabacher had drawn attention in 1935. His fuller notes of 1936, with a description of the find and photographs, had passed through England into other hands and were returned intact on request; because of its historical and monetary significance a separate publication seemed appropriate, and Schwabacher made the unaltered manuscript available. As to the historical setting: under Philip V Macedonia had twice been at war with Rome; the peace of Phoinike ended the first Macedonian war in 205 BC, a war that had begun in 215 with the alliance between Philip and Hannibal and whose deeper causes lay in Roman intervention in Illyria.
