Abstract

First the author is dealing with the partition of the Ernestine possessions in 1572, further he considers, what the coinage of both duchies has in common. One reason for the joint issue of talers the author sees in the fact that important aspects of education, law and religious practice still were jointly administered. This joint coinage would have been issued for the participants during those meetings necessary to discuss the problems, that had emerged. The agreement of 1599 to jointly run the University of Jena might have been the reason to issue the joint gold coinage of the year 1600. In a third part the joint coinage is presented and discussed
