Abstract
With one exemption from the rule all representations of the dioscuri on all Roman coins and medaillons of the 2^d century A.D. can be connected with the arrangements concerning the succession to the throne. The emperor was assimilated with Jupiter, the for some time Conclusions 343 two successors of Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius were identified with the dioscuri, the sons of Jupiter. On one of the medaillons Commodus is shown together with one of the dioscuri. This might be explained as the representation of the deceased twin brother of Commodus, once also destined for the succession to Marcus Aurelius
