Abstract

On the reverse of a medaillon-sized coin of Anazarbus from A. D. 204/05 there is a numeral F (=3) as an abbreviation for "capital of the three provincial areas", and the numeral B (= 2) for "two neokoriai". Not before this year, and not already in A.D. 198 the City was bestowed with the title of a capital. This coinage was supposed to indicate the newly achieved equality in comparison to Tarsus, which too had the same prerogatives and titles. — Further the cult of Isis and Sarapis, known already for the hellenistic times in Mopsuhestia, now is witnessed for the time of the emperor Decius by an aes coin
