Abstract

Between the Saxon money reform of 1 March 1444 and the Hessian money reform of 20 December 1444, in Hesse all Groschen from Hesse and Meissen were countermarked with a lion. This included not only the good pieces containing a high amount of silver, but also those issues struck from 1440 to 1444 in a minor alloy
