Abstract
The eighth instalment of the literature surveys, which unlike the others treats not a region but a class of coin. A preliminary note defines the subject: Greek cistophori are the actual pieces with the cista mystica on the obverse and the bow case between two snakes on the reverse, including those bearing the name of a Roman proconsul. Roman cistophori, by contrast, are the imperial silver medallions of the province of Asia which continue the Greek coinage and agree with it in weight, size and value but carry different types. An introduction and bibliography are followed by an index.
