Abstract

A monograph in two main parts. The part on monetary history runs from the tenth into the fourteenth century, followed by the right of coinage and the history of the coinage, divided into the age of the denarii from about 955 to 1190, the age of the bracteates from about 1190 to 1350 and the age of the hellers in the fourteenth century, together with the mints of the Augsburg type at Donauwörth, Schongau, Innsbruck and Brixen. Extensive appendices give a survey of the denarii struck at Augsburg with their average weights, fineness and tale according to the minting decrees from 1061 to 1396, the ratio of bad to properly struck pfennigs, money reckonings from 1203 to 1403, lists of the finds of denarii and of augustenses, four distribution maps and a catalogue of types.
