Abstract
The first part of the catalogue, prompted by Hans Gebhart, director of the State Coin Collection, who repeatedly pointed to the need for a fresh treatment of the Bavarian coinage; the work was carried out between 1949 and 1951. Starting from Imhof's outdated but until then only larger work, a catalogue of the Nuremberg issues was compiled from the Munich holdings, recording only types and only what is attested, and completed from the holdings of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, smaller Bavarian museums, collectors and dealers, and from a survey of the auction catalogues. Because gold and silver developed according to different laws they are treated separately; the gold coins fall of themselves into gold gulden and ducats.
