Abstract

Five Hellenistic coins showing a laureate head of Apollo, a kneeling humped bull and the legend ΠΕ were once attributed to Pessinus in Galatia and later, by Hans von Aulock, to Pednelissos in Pisidia. The paper gathers further arguments for Pednelissos: Apollo does not appear on the coinage of Pessinus, whose Hellenistic bronzes are temple issues of the Magna Mater and never carry the civic ethnic. The bull imagery is then placed in its religious context, that of bull fighting in the Taurus mountains.
