The medieval coin hoard from the Salzburg Judengasse: 28,000 coins, 28,000 images

The online lecture shed new light on a hoard from Judengasse 10 that has been held in the Salzburg Museum for about four decades. The more than 28,000 coins, from regions ranging from Bavaria and Bohemia through Austria to Venice, were examined not only numismatically but also analysed as bearers of images. The central question was what significance the depictions might have had for viewers in the 13th century.
