MONTHLY LECTURE
The gold and aes coinage of Athens - new insights into inflation waves, special issues and development from the 4th century BC to the middle Roman imperial period
Dr. Robert Lehmann, Munich
The lecture dealt with the hitherto less well-known coinages of Athens in metals other than silver. The focus was on the production of the coins, their purchasing power and their circulation. On the basis of material analyses of collections in Munich, Gotha and Winterthur near Zurich, new findings on gold and copper issues were presented, including current research results of the University of Munich on the New Style tetradrachms. Finally, the talk turned to the unexpected discovery of hitherto unknown tin issues.
