SCIENTIFIC POSTER
The first comprehensive metallurgical study of Roman military diplomas
XXVI Limes Congress, Batumi (Georgia), September 2024
The first comprehensive metallurgical study of Roman military diplomas analysed around 500 diplomas. It showed that the alloy remained constant over a good 200 years, a functional leaded bronze with more than 8 percent tin and around 20 percent lead, optimised for thin metal plates and inscriptions on both sides. The BNG and the Staatliche Münzsammlung München presented the results as a scientific poster at the XXVI Limes Congress in Batumi.
