Nero by model: computer-assisted die studies on Roman financial history

Modern computer models make die studies possible on a large scale and with new statistical methods. The analysis shows that under Emperor Nero the Roman state, despite extensive coinage reforms, relied above all on tax revenue to cover its expenditure and not primarily on minting itself.
