Mit Sammleraugen: Die schönste Medaille

Opening on 17 October 2025 at the Staatliche Münzsammlung München

The exhibition of the Bavarian Numismatic Society showed the full diversity of the art of the medal from private collections. Medal collectors were invited to submit their personal favourite piece and to explain in writing why this particular work fascinates them. From all the submissions a BNG jury selected 75 medals, from antiquity to the modern era, from well-known artists to special techniques.

This created a very personal view of the medal as a work of art, precisely through a collector's eyes. One example is the Renaissance medal on Lorenzino de' Medici shown here, whose reverse with two daggers recalls the famous tyrannicide of 1548.

Catalogue A large-format illustrated accompanying catalogue was published for the exhibition. It shows both sides of each medal, the technical data and the collectors' personal explanations. Price 20 euros.

Return For the Munich Show 2026 the show returned once more, supplemented by the section 'Meine liebste Münze' (My favourite coin).
