The lecture was devoted to rare coinages of Hadrian from his time as Caesar under Emperor Trajan. They show a new portrait type with curly hair and a beard. It examined the circumstances of Hadrian's adoption and why these Caesar issues were quickly replaced by mass issues after his elevation to Augustus on 11 August AD 117.
