MONTHLY LECTURE
An attempt to explain the iconography of archaic coinage
Dr. Ute Wartenberg, American Numismatic Society, New York
The lecture dealt with the iconography of early, archaic coinage. Using examples such as an Ephesian coin from around 630 to 600 BC, the depictions and their possible meanings were analysed. The aim was to explain the symbolism and the artistic design principles of this early numismatics.
The lecture took place in cooperation with the Freundeskreis der Staatlichen Münzsammlung München.
