DIGITAL LECTURE

A new portrait type Munich-Antioch for Agrippina the Younger

Dr. Andreas Pangerl, Munich

The lecture presented a newly defined portrait type of the Roman empress Agrippina the Younger. It was based on a portrait head closely matching a tetradrachm issue of Agrippina the Younger and Nero from Antioch on the Orontes, dated to AD 56/57. Characteristic features are a broad central parting, multiple rows of curls at the temples and a distinctive arrangement of the hair.
